Emergency — severe abdominal pain
Acute pancreatitis needs urgent treatment in hospital. (NHS)
Call 112 (European emergency number) or your local emergency number, or go to a hospital emergency department, if you have sudden, severe pain in your abdomen and especially if:
- the pain spreads to your back
- you are vomiting, or you have a high temperature
- you have a fast heartbeat or difficulty breathing
- bloating does not go away
- skin around the navel, waist, or upper outer thigh looks blue or bruised
These warning features follow NHS emergency advice. (NHS — Acute pancreatitis) NIDDK also advises seeking care right away for severe or worsening abdominal pain, fever or chills, a fast heartbeat, shortness of breath, or jaundice. (NIDDK)
Do not drive yourself if you can avoid it. Ask someone to take you, or call an ambulance. Take a list of your medicines.

In the United Kingdom, NHS also uses 999 for immediate life-threatening illness and 111 for urgent advice. Use the numbers that apply in the country you are in.
